  • Chair. A nice chair in your studio is so important.
    • Like a set of monitors, it seems like such a worthless purchase, but it is so vital.
    • Seriously Cannot stress this enough.
  • Laptop. It is what it is
  • Skull, this is my "memento mori"
    • a signal to writers to remember that just as they shall turn to dust, so shall their words.

    • Last time I used it, 1-2 was play BoI Rebirth, 3-4 was sekrut project, 5-6 was music
  • Personal deck of Oblique Techno strategies
    • A deck of cards originated by Brian Eno, who is an amazing producer in his own right, check out links in the doobly do.
    • Another way to inject some randomness and bring in some fresh ideas

  • Phineas. he is a talker and a planner. he is the guy who says "Ferb, I know what we're going to do today". If Spiritual Guides took the form of Cartoons, then Phineas would be mine.
  • Monitors. The point of monitors is to reproduce sound in as pure a way as possible.
  • Mo-pads Thanks to Evil-G for this suggestion. Very important, help stop vibrations from monitors transferring to the desk, and changing the sound.
  • Keyboard
  • Ableton Push. Primary interface into ableton live. Makes the software act like hardware.
  • Behringer BCF2k, a decent controller
    • during creation and mix engineering, use faders to set my volumes
    • Use the buttons during mix engineering too
    • … flesh this out, and put on the thing
  • Ferb, another Spirit Guide. He never talks. He is a do'er. Seriously, best cartoon ever, even John Green Agrees. Link in the doobly doo.
  • Mopho - Great little MonoPhonic synthesizer
    • created by Dave smith, who is the guy who invented midi. Basically one of the synthesizer gods
    • the midi implementation is STELLAR.

  • 2 favorites: Yin and Yang
    • x0xb0xes, clones of the TB-303.
    • I'll talk more about the TB-303 and how to get that sound later.

  • Kaoss pad for playing live.
    • I sample the song I am playing, then let that play while loading a new song
  • Mixer. Was super important when I was a strict hardware guy.
  • Audio interface, mixer 2.0. All external gear plugs in here.

  • Old sequencer
    • This thing contains all the notes of my old songs (not even the sounds!)
    • Break boats and smash pots!
  • Notebooks, one is for music when I was doing hardware, one is for music now that I am doing software, and one is for electronics

  • Mono speaker. Reproduces what my music sounds like on a crappy speaker in mono.
